Knowledge Hub on Sea Level Rise featured across key Ocean and Climate events in June 2025

The Knowledge Hub on Sea Level Rise continued to build momentum in June, with the 1st Assessment Report prominently featured across a series of events.
Presence at the One Ocean Science Congress 2025
From 3-6 June, the KH SLR was presented at the One Ocean Science Congress in Nice through a poster entitled “Assessment of regional sea level information for effective adaptation to rising seas.” The poster was on display in La Baleine area, with evening presentation sessions held on 3, 4, and 5 June, drawing interest from both scientific and policy communities.
In a key side event of the Congress, the EC-EIB Adaptation Days, organised by the European Commission (DG CLIMA) and the European Investment Bank, JPI Oceans Executive Director Thorsten Kiefer contributed to a panel on “Using data for better adaptation planning”. His intervention emphasised the importance of regionally tailored sea level information for driving science-based adaptation efforts across Europe.
Highlight at the UN Ocean Conference
The 1st Assessment Report was also featured at the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference, held from 9-13 June, reaching a global audience. In a Green Zone session on 11 June, the report was presented by Thorsten Kiefer along with lead authors Angélique Melet and Begoña Pérez. The session, hosted at the Digital Ocean Pavilion, sparked discussions around global adaptation needs and the role of knowledge co-creation in supporting action.
Visibility at ECCA2025
At ECCA2025, the European Climate Change Adaptation Conference held in Rimini, Italy, from 16-18 June, the Knowledge Hub had a strong presence. At the JPI Climate/MAGICA booth, participants could explore printed copies of the 1st Assessment Report and a dedicated Summary for Policymakers brochure. Sea level rise also featured prominently on the agenda, since the conference included seven sessions under the theme Protecting coastal and mountain areas, making sea level a highly visible topic throughout the conference.
