Assessment Report to be announced at the UN Ocean Decade Conference 2024

The Ocean Decade Conference “Delivering the science we need for the ocean we want” taking place on 10-12 April 2024 as part of the Ocean Decade Week (8-12 April 2024) in Barcelona, Spain, will showcase the Knowledge Hub’s first European Assessment Report of the Knowledge Hub on Sea Level Rise.

The Assessment Report will be presented by Bart van den Hurk, co-chair of the Knowledge Hub, as part of the satellite event Coastal Futures: Charting Priorities for Resilience”. Full programme of the event can be seen here.

The satellite event will take place on-site at the Barcelona International Convention Centre (CCIB) on Thursday 11 April in the Sargasso Sea room – P1 Floor, time slot 13:15 to 14:45 CEST. It will also be livestreamed and can also be followed via this link here.

About the Assessment Report:

The report strives to synthesize the current scientific knowledge on sea level rise and its impacts across local, national, and European basin scales, to support evidence-based policy and decision making primarily targeting coastal areas. Employing an integrated and interdisciplinary approach in assessing state of the art information, the report aims to not only consolidate existing knowledge but also to identify gaps in (available) knowledge. It takes the current policy landscape and adaptation planning in Europe as reference and seeks to equip decision makers with the necessary knowledge to make informed decisions about protective and adaptive measures against the impacts of rising sea levels.
